Den s.k. "opublicerade
1900-talet. Berättelserna har muntligt förmedlats i flera
släktled. Numera finns möjligheter (t.ex. Genline) att enkelt kunna
kontrollera vissa fakta vad gäller årtal och händelser.
Denna kedja byggs nu kontinuerligt på och går i olika riktningar;

of emigrants and their relationship
The family chronicle is based on
stories told down the family line. When it finally was put on paper, by
our grandmother Maria Stina Andersdotter Persson (1864), we can see some
misinterpretations down the line.
In late 1700, however, our
progenitor, Olof Jonsson (1698) came to Bäck in Tveta parish, in the
province of Wermland. We do not know if he was the first settler. We
don’t know much about his wife, Britta (1695), either. They had a son,
Jon, and two daughters, Annicka and Britta. It looks like Annicka never
married but lived on the farm till old age. (It might be she, who is
called “mor Annicka” in the chronicle).
In 1775 the family had grown and
the head of the family is now Jon (1723). We know that he married Brita
Nilsdotter (1739) from Getebol.
From the stories we know that he
felt more at home on the horse back, riding in the forest, than work on
the farm.
In 1790 fewer people than earlier
lived on the Bäck farm. Maria (1768) had died. Two of the farm hands, Jon
and Olof are gone.
Olof Jonsson (1765) took over the
farm. He married Lisa Cajsa Larsdotter (1774) and they had the sons, Olof
(1794), Lars (1797), Jonas (1799) and Olle (1805).
Olle (1805) married Maria
Jansdotter (1806)./ Maria Jansdotter is in the chronicle called “Marja
Olsdotter”. In 1835
they had three sons, Jon (1829), Olof (1831), Nils (1833) and a daughter
Stina (1835). Nils was the first in the family line that changed his name
to Bäckman.
Their other children were Lisa
Kajsa (1838), Johanna (1840 – 1843), Britta maria (1843 - 1847), Johanna
and Sarah (1845).
Late in Oct 1864 Sarah moved in
with Jon and Olof in the town Åmål. Our great grandmother was house
keeping for them , before she married our great grandfather.
Sarah moved to Norway Apr 2 1869,
and in 1873 at age 27, she left Scandinavia
for the 2 ½-week voyage to New York.
Sarah’s oldest brother Jon took
over the Bäck family farm but then followed Sarah to Michigan in 1882
with his wife and five children. There he became a farmer near Skandia.
